School Development 2016 – 2017

As a whole school community we are always working on improving our school. We have also looked carefully at what Ofsted expect for a school to be Good and Outstanding, and have carefully analysed our strengths and the areas where we need to do even better. Please support us to achieve our aims.

Particular ways that parents can help are:

  • talk to your child about our school vision, values and Rights Respecting Actions
  • make sure your child comes to school on time every day
  • help your child with his/her homework, and ask the school for support if you would like it
  • look at the curriculum plans the teachers send home and research topics in advance to enhance your child’s learning
  • use our website to help your child learn at home
  • come to one of our parent workshops about how to help your child with: Maths, Reading, online safety, road safety…
  • tell us straightaway if you have a problem, so we can help you sort it out as soon as possible

SATs Results 2016

This year, children in Year 2 and Year 6 took tests based on the new National Curriculum for the first time. These tests follow a completely different scoring system to any tests children have sat previously, so the results cannot be compared with previous years’ results.

Our children have made excellent PROGRESS, especially in Reading. Holy Trinity is in the top 5% of schools nationally for progress in Reading and the top 25% for Maths (it is also above the national average for progress in Writing).

In Year 6, 43% of pupils achieved the expected standard in Reading, Writing and Maths, which is below the national average of 53%. 14% achieved ‘greater depth’ in all 3 subjects. This compares with 5% nationally.

In Reading, 68% achieved the expected standard (above national) and 32% achieved ‘Above Expected’ (above national). The progress measure was 5.06 (0 is the national average), which puts us in the top 5% of schools nationally for progress in Reading.

In Writing, 54% of pupils achieved the expected standard (below national) and 21% achieved ‘Greater Depth’ (above national). The progress measure was 0.26 (0 is the national average), which puts us above national for progress in writing.

  • Writing is a priority area of improvement for the school

In English Grammar, Spelling and Punctuation (EGPS), 68% of pupils achieved the expected standard (just below national) and 39% achieved ‘Above Expected’ (above national).

In Mathematics, 54% achieved the expected standard (below the national of 70%) and 25% achieved ‘Above Expected’ (above national). The progress measure was 2.13 (0 is the national average).

  • Maths is a priority area of improvement for the school

(Results in Year 6 exclude 2 newly arrived pupils, but include all SEN pupils)

In Year 2, 58% achieved the expected standard in Reading (below national) and 27% achieved ‘Greater Depth’ (above national).

  • Reading is a priority area of improvement for the school; Key Stage 1

42% achieved the expected standard in Writing (below national), and 19% achieved ‘Greater Depth’ (above national).

  • Writing  is a priority area of improvement for the school; Key Stage 1

  • Maths is a priority area of improvement for the school; Key Stage 1

Phonics: 67% of pupils passed the Phonics test in Year 1 and 81% of children passed the test in Year 2. These scores are below national averages. They include pupils who were new to our school and had never studied phonics before.

In EYFS, 58% of children achieved a Good Level of Development. Although below national, this is similar to our score last year, despite a much needier and more mobile cohort.

  • The EYFS is a priority area of improvement for the school
